The content of calcium carbonate powder (commonly known as lime powder) in PVC edge banding. Generally, PVC edge banding contains calcium carbonate powder, but too high a content of calcium carbonate powder will make the structure of PVC loose, thus seriously affecting the quality of PVC edge banding.
Production problems:
Blanking
That is, after the PVC edge banding is bent into a small arc, a whitening phenomenon will appear on the edge, and this whitening will not be restored after the PVC edge banding is straightened again. This phenomenon will be more obvious for dark colors.
Bounce
That is, it is easy to produce a jump when trimming the PVC edge banding. Of course, the reason for the jump is not only the high content of calcium carbonate powder. When the edge banding is done, when the hot melt adhesive of the edge banding is not well coordinated with the feeding speed, it will cause the PVC edge banding to not be completely bonded to the board during trimming, so it is easy to produce a jump phenomenon due to the floating of the PVC edge banding.
Trimming and grinding
The edge gloss of PVC edge banding after trimming and grinding is poor, so the appearance effect will be poor. In order to reduce costs, the calcium carbonate powder content of low-quality PVC edge banding on the market is as high as 60% or more. As for the different equivalent products of the same brand, it is mainly their calcium carbonate powder content.
Cracking
Due to the high content of calcium carbonate, the PVC edge banding has no toughness and loose internal structure, and it will crack when slightly subjected to external force, especially in transportation at low temperatures.
Treatment method
PVC cannot be directly bonded to the board very well. The quality of the back glue (actually not glue, but plays the role of an intermediate bridge, so it is also called a bridging agent) directly affects the bonding effect. Especially when the weather is cold, the workshop temperature is relatively low, and the efficiency of hot melt glue and back glue is greatly reduced. This is often attributed to the quality of PVC edge banding by furniture manufacturers. The best treatment method is to replace it with a high-temperature hot melt glue with higher viscosity and purity, increase the working temperature of the hot melt glue, increase the room temperature, and preheat the PVC edge banding (quality must be guaranteed).
The curvature of the PVC edge banding strip itself. When the PVC edge banding strip is bonded and extruded, in order to prevent the loss of glue, a good PVC edge banding strip should have a slight inward bend in its width direction. The inferior PVC edge banding strip is flat or even warped, which is prone to poor bonding. At present, only a few PVC edge banding strips on the market are acrylic products. The others are transparent PVC. The problem with transparent PVC is that after trimming and grinding, the transparency of its edges will be slightly worse, so it cannot fully achieve the 3D effect. There are two processes for printing patterns on the PVC surface: printing and thermal transfer film. The surface of the thermal transfer film is relatively glossy, and the product looks bright and layered, but due to its high cost, slow transfer speed, and the color cannot be conveniently matched with the board, it has now been replaced by printing. The calcium carbonate powder content of some inferior PVC edge banding strips is too high. If the printing process is used, there will be a problem of fading, so sometimes the thermal transfer film process is also used.
